History - 117 years is a good start ...

The history of the Tannenhäuschen dates back to 1902. Back then, Jakob and Clara Hetzel laid the foundation stone for a new recreational area in Wesel and from then on offered guests from near and far a place to relax and socialise.

Over the years, the warmth of the family and the marvellous location of the hotel made it a popular meeting place for young and old. On this basis, subsequent generations took over the business and continued to expand it with diligence and a keen sense of guests' needs. Numerous hotel extensions were created with their own labour and finally a spacious spa area was added.

Now, after 117 years of family tradition, the Hetzel family has retired from active hotel operations with a heavy heart in order to concentrate more on the family. In September 2019, the traditional hotel was handed over to the halbersbacher hospitality group and thus into experienced hands. Much remains the same and yet we will honour the history of the hotel with contemporary modernisations.

Book - The Tannenhäuschen story.

On the occasion of the 115th anniversary in 2017, the chronicle of the hotel was published by Anno-Verlag: "Waldhotel Tannenhäuschen - 115 Jahre Geschichte(n) des Wesel Traditionshauses" by Tim Michalak. Ingelore Hetzel, then senior manager of the hotel, recalls 70 years of hotel history, which she herself experienced.

The chronicle, lovingly compiled by historian Tim Michalak, shows that today's hotel has little to do with the garden inn that Jakob and Clara Hetzel opened in 1902. Over the years, the hotel has grown with its guests, and the owners and staff have received and continue to receive many impulses for change and new perspectives in dialogue with them. But one thing has not changed in all these years: The hotel's marvellous location, surrounded by forest and nature, in the middle of a spacious park landscape, allows guests to enjoy a unique atmosphere.
